Hey all, I wanted to pop in quick to share this amazing new little spot in Disney’s Yacht Club. It’s open although still under construction and if you are gluten intolerant (or have any allergy really) it is SO WORTH the trip over to check it out! Here’s why!
The Market at Ale and Compass over at Disney’s Yacht Club resort is a new, adorable, little spot that, just like it’s Beach Club Marketplace counterpart serves a small selection of hot dishes as well as tons of grocery-shopping-style supplies. Only here, the shopping is incredibly allergy friendly, to the point of even being allergy and health centered! It’s themed like the clean yet rustic style so popular in the northeast. It especially reminded me of one of my favorite companies Stonewall Kitchen in southern Maine but I think it was actually (at least in part) modeled after Dean and Deluca and similar companies. It had a nice sitting area too if you’d like to stay a while and enjoy your food. I think it will be even better looking once they finish the construction though- I can’t wait to see the end result!
Walking in I was stunned, STUNNED, I’ve honestly never seen so many gluten free products in once place, even in a Whole Foods! They had cookies and chips and healthy snacks and protein bars and every pre-packed thing you can imagine. A few things were made in house but most of what was out on the rustic tables was from outside companies with gluten free and a host of other certifications on the packaging.
I was so impressed I actually asked to speak with one of the managers just to tell her how happy I was to see all this. She told me that her co-manager is actually gluten intolerant so when they were designing this she had a real mission to fill it with gluten friendly snacks people could enjoy or take to the parks with them. I was so blown away. To be honest, we were staying at Yacht Club this last trip and it was not a great allergy experience (I was gluten contaminated at my birthday dinner at Yachtsman, but more on that in a later post), but then we stumbled on this place and I was so happy to see just the care and the attention paid to gluten intolerant guests. Even though we mostly stopped by for coffee, just knowing that it was here and that Disney is listening to allergy concerns really brought me joy.
Beyond the packaged items, they also have a refrigerator case filled with great looking items. Of course the sandwiches weren’t safe but I’d bet many of the salads were (they looked like it but I didn’t ask if they were careful prepping them since some had croutons while others didn’t). They also had a bunch of really great looking other items like Caprese Salad in a cup, and olive salad, tons of fresh fruit, and an assortment of hummuses. Don’t forget the freezer with Mickey Bars and Halo Top!
Also, I was happy to see that the gluten-containing bakery items were housed in their own case further reducing the risk of cross contamination. (David was drooling over the mickey shaped brownie!). I don’t think any of the quick service hot food is actually gluten free safe but with so many other options I didn’t even pay attention haha!
Overall I was just so happy to see a place like this come to Disney and the attention they gave to gluten free guests. I hope this attitude of caring especially for gluten free and allergy free diners continues to spread through Disney (and everywhere really!). I’ve always said Disney is the absolute best place in the world to be gluten free and places like this just further make me proud to support Disney!
